Commodoreserver.com

#c64 - I signed up for a free Commodoreserver.com account. It sounds like a great idea. Does anyone use this that can give me a short review? I understand the storing of D64 files, etc. I'm more interested in what software is used to connect to the Internet. Would I be able to telnet, web browse, Twitter, etc? What software supports the Comet64?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

  1. Hi! I saw your post and wanted to see if I could help. I just recently signed up for an account on CommodoreServer.com and am friends with the creator/designer of the Comet64. CommodoreServer is really cool. You can actually connect to the server using VICE 2.2 (C64 emulator for Windows) and the V1541 software. I have played C64 games online from the server using an SX64. It is quite fun, and really cool. You can also upload all your .D64 (C64 disk images) games the server to use and play. I would highly recommend the server to anyone. It's so much fun. Follow Greg @PDXCUG on Twitter and he can give you all the info. You can check out my blog as well http://gencom64.blogspot.com. I've got some good links on there for more info. Talk to you soon!

  2. I checked out your site! I am looking forward to storing D64's, etc. But I guess I need a more clear picture of the Internet functionality and what software exists TODAY that can get on the Internet. I have an RR-NET, but I don't like my software options in regards to doing telnet sessions, etc. None of the terminal programs that are compatible with the RR-NET allow you to save an address book of destinations. I want a terminal program to work like the way I did back in the day, except over the Internet instead of dial-up. Does that make sense?

  3. Yes. I think so. I did the BBS thing in the 80s. I know Contiki and Breadbox allow certain devices to connect to the web as well. If you hit Greg up on Twitter @PDXCUG he should be able to help you out a little more.
